Virtual Family Nights in August

Virtual Family Nights in August

Dear Families,

On Monday, the Cle Elum-Roslyn school board members approved the recommendation put forth by the Reopening of Schools Advisory Committee to begin the 2020-2021 school year remotely. Remote learning will be conducted by CERSD teachers in conjunction with curriculum and lessons supported by Edgenuity (click here to view their website).

The Reopening of Schools Advisory Committee had fiercely committed to returning our students and staff to school this fall.  However, after speaking to the Department of Health, our local health officer, and reviewing the statistics and data here in Kittitas, we cannot, in good faith, bring our staff and students back to campus this Fall.

I know that each one of you are facing a unique set of your own circumstances that are impacted by our decision. As an educational leader, this is not an easy decision and I accept full responsibility for ensuring that your child’s needs will be respected, honored, and addressed.

We learned from our parent and student survey feedback, that the continuous learning model last spring was not ideal. While nothing can replace in-person instruction, we are thoughtfully committed to developing a high-quality remote learning model that offers robust, supportive, and engaging instruction. We will be hosting a series of virtual family nights prior to the start of the year with the goal of providing families and students with the support and resources they need to be successful. We recognize that distance learning cannot fully meet the needs of some students with unique learning needs, and we are evaluating the extent to which we can safely provide individualized services to students who need them.

Please join us for our first Virtual Family Night: What is Edgenuity? This is the first of three meetings in the series and will take place on August 5th at 6:30pm.  Future meetings will be held on Wednesday August 12th & 19th at 6:30pm and will focus on topics such as the Core 4, managing at-home learning, and technology support. Due to the maximum capacity of 300 participants at each virtual event, the meetings will be recorded and released on YouTube for those that are unable to attend the live events. See below for the Zoom link/details.

If COVID taught us anything, it’s the gift of patience and the certainty that information about this disease is consistently evolving. I know that many of you have asked when we will return to the classroom. At this point, the answer is uncertain. We will continue to monitor infection rates, work with local health authorities, and keep you updated and informed. As a community, if we work together to mask up, limit social gatherings, and maintain social distancing, we will be closer to making a full return back to school.

I know you have many more questions. We may not have the answers to them all at this moment, but know that we are working on it—working extremely hard, with a deep sense of responsibility to you and your children. As questions arise, feel free to direct them to

Together, we got this. Together, we are  #CERSDstrong.
