News and Information Regarding the 3' Rule

March 25, 2021

Dear CERSD Families,

As you know, Kittitas County superintendents, school boards, and elected officials have partnered to push our Governor and OSPI to follow the science and endorse the CDC (Center for Disease) findings that there is no scientific evidence that indicates a difference in a 3' versus a  6' social distancing protocol when it comes to student spread in schools. It is my hope that our Governor and the Washington State Department of Health will endorse these CDC findings and allow schools in WA state to return all students to the classroom following the 3' social distancing rule.  As a community, we have already proven that being vigilant about our health and safety protocols work: daily attestations, staying home when you are sick, masking, social distancing, testing, and proper cleaning.

What does that look like for your students? While we wait for the green light from the Governor and the Washington State Department of Health, we have already begun to look at our classroom spaces, staffing, and logistics to accommodate for this highly anticipated change.  We will continue to gather the necessary information which will include a brief survey to our families as we prepare for this change. We will be releasing this survey to families prior to Spring Break.

We want to thank all of you for your advocacy and support of our schools and students. As a community, we have proven that we have the power to adapt and persevere in spite of the adversity we have endured. I appreciate those of you who have reached out to our Governor, elected officials, and the Department of Health, to help return all of our students back to the classroom.
