Our Gray Wolves are on the move! This fall, during P.E., students will be biking on campus while learning road rules, helmet safety, and the joy of active transportation. Whether students choose to walk or roll, they are gaining essential skills in a safe and supportive environment.
Learning Skills That Last a Lifetime
Aligned with Washington State physical education standards, this program is designed to foster a lifelong love of active transportation while building essential safety knowledge. Students will explore the joys of walking and biking while practicing:
Basic traffic safety principles
Rules of the road
Improved bicycle handling skills
Respectful behavior toward fellow street and trail users
Helmet Safety Matters
Helmet education is a key part of the curriculum. Students will learn how to properly fit a helmet—a skill proven to reduce the risk of head injury by up to 85% in the event of a crash.
Beyond Physical Fitness
Physical activity doesn’t just benefit the body—it boosts the brain, too! Research shows that children who walk or bike to school arrive more focused and ready to learn. This program creates a powerful link between physical health and academic success.
Families Play a Role
We encourage families to join in by modeling safe walking and biking habits. Wearing helmets and practicing safe road skills together not only reinforces these lessons but also creates meaningful opportunities for family connection.
Thank You for Your Support
This program wouldn’t be possible without the continued generosity of our community partners. We are grateful once again to The Pac Rat Mt. Bike Team Board, The Hein Foundation, and The Suncadia Fund for Community Enhancement for supporting our students’ health, safety, and confidence.
The benefits of walking and biking go beyond fitness. They promote independence, confidence, and a stronger connection to our local community. We can’t wait to see our Gray Wolves grow in ability, awareness, and joy through this program.
Happy Riding!
