David VanGeelkerken

The Cle Elum-Roslyn School District is excited to announce that David VanGeelkerken has been selected as the next Principal of Cle Elum-Roslyn Elementary.  Mr. Van was the elementary school’s Assistant Principal during the 2021-2022 school year where he worked alongside Mr. Chase, who had been the Principal for the past 19 years. With Mr. Chase transitioning across the hall to become the Principal at Walter Strom Middle School, he left big shoes to fill at the elementary school.  Mr. Van is going to do an amazing job as the new leader of the Gray Wolf pack! During his year as an Assistant Principal, Mr. Van built positive relationships with students, families and staff.  He has a keen eye for data and a big heart for kids.  After accepting the position, Mr. Van said, “Working with Cle Elum-Roslyn students, staff, parents and community has been amazing this past year.  I’m extremely excited and looking forward to this opportunity to continue to build relationships, create memories and grow as a school community for years to come!”

Before coming to Cle Elum-Roslyn School District, Mr. Van had previously taught Kindergarten, 3rd grade and was also a reading specialist. His career started in Wahluke where he was awarded the “Rookie Teacher of the Year” during his first year as a teacher. This will be his ninth year in education. Mr. Van loves our beautiful area, and “how evident it is that the community is really involved and cares about partnering with the district to support all students.”

With Mr. Van elevating into his new role as the Principal of Cle Elum-Roslyn Elementary, the district will be posting to hire a new Assistant Principal with the goal of hiring another talented educator before staff return in August.  Superintendent John Belcher said, "Mr. Van has a talent and passion for teaching and learning. I'm excited to see him take his talent to the next level!"
