Celebrating National Principals Month

We’d like to take a moment to recognize and thank our incredible school leaders for their dedication, vision, and care. Our principals work tirelessly to support students, staff, and families — fostering positive school cultures and inspiring success every day. Even as the month winds down, our appreciation for their leadership continues all year long!

Assistant Principal Beth Sandefur (K-8)

Beth has been an amazing addition to our leadership team — a magician of balance and empathy. Gifted in restorative practices, PBIS, and meeting the needs of both students and staff, she brings calm and confidence to every challenge. Whether guiding Early Learning or serving as Assistant Principal for PreK–8, Beth juggles it all with grace and heart. Her steady presence, kindness, and deep care are making a lasting impact across our schools.

Principal David VanGeelkerken "Mr. Van" (CERES)

David has transformed the culture at the elementary school with his positive energy, thoughtful hiring, and focus on growth. Like a master builder, he’s creating systems that empower teachers and help students thrive. His leadership has driven steady academic improvement and a renewed sense of teamwork. As our district MTSS lead, David continues to lay strong foundations for success across all schools.

Principal Matt Chase (WSMS)

Matt is a maestro of relationships and momentum — his ability to inspire and connect makes students and staff feel seen, valued, and proud. Under his leadership, academic achievement continues to rise, and enthusiasm for standards-based grading is spreading. His calm vision and belief in purposeful change guide his team forward. Matt’s steady leadership and optimism lift everyone around him.

Principal Scott Brown (CERHS & Swiftwater)

Scott hit the ground running and has already made a remarkable impact at the high school. A true architect of focus and renewal, he reshaped the school culture toward higher academic engagement and fewer distractions — all while supporting two schools simultaneously. His commitment and clarity have re-energized both staff and students. The positive response from students reflects the trust and excitement he’s built in such a short time.
