High School Prevention Club Honored for Youth Advocacy and Leadership group photo

The Cle Elum-Roslyn High School Prevention Club received formal recognition for their outstanding work in youth advocacy, leadership, and community engagement at the Cle Elum City Council meeting on March 24th, 2026.

Students were presented with a Proclamation acknowledging their efforts to promote positive choices among peers and throughout the broader community. During the meeting, the Prevention Club delivered a presentation highlighting a year of remarkable achievements, including:

  • Youth advocacy at the legislative level, contributing to tobacco and kratom restrictions.

  • Peer-to-peer engagement, hosting tabling events and prevention activities for fellow students.

  • Educational skits, such as “Samantha Skunk,” performed for elementary students.

  • Speaking engagements, including participation in the Cascade Prevention Coalition Key Leader Event.

  • Regional involvement, attending the Southeastern Regional Youth Conference.

Students also emphasized their local advocacy in August and September, when a vape shop was proposed across from The Shop Teen Center. Prevention Club members, along with staff, attended city council meetings to provide testimony opposing the location, demonstrating a strong commitment to protecting youth in the community.

Mayor Matthew Lundh noted that youth voice has played a meaningful role in shaping local decisions, including the City of Cle Elum’s kratom ban—an outcome influenced in part by these students’ advocacy and testimony.

The Mayor and Deputy Mayor offered complimentary remarks, highlighting the meaningful impact of the students’ work. Their dedication to prevention, leadership, and community engagement serves as a model for others and reflects the positive change they are creating in Cle Elum-Roslyn.
