August 23, 2021

Dear Warrior Families,

We hope this letter finds everyone rested and ready for another school year. We are looking forward to the upcoming 2021-22 school year and being in person every day.  This year will have a number of adjustments.

Staff Changes: Cheryl Singer has moved to the Health & Fitness position while Karla Hill (interim) is moving to the Special Education teacher position.  We also have new Special Education paraeducators: Jennifer Lewis and Jordan Stauffer.  Also, new teachers: Joshua Johnson - Biology, and Brandon Berk - Math.  We have also hired 2011 CERHS graduate, Hailey Bator, as our 7-12 Athletic Director.  We are excited to work together to provide the best opportunities for students and staff this coming school year.  Welcome to our Warrior Family!

Orientation & Video Tour - Orientation for incoming freshmen and new students will be on Tuesday, August 31, from 6:00-8:00 pm.  Students will attend from 6:00-8:00 pm while parents can attend a brief presentation from 7:30-8:00 pm on what to expect for the next four years at CERHS.  If you or your student(s) are not able to attend, the ASB will also be sending out a video walk-through of the school to help everyone be ready for the start of the school year.  We will also have ASB Officers available to help all students during the first days of school.

Typical Day at CERHS: CERHS has transitioned to a 7-period school day from 8:15-3:00 pm Monday through Thursday and 8:15-2:00 pm on Friday. This will provide additional elective and credit opportunities for students.  Students in the graduating classes of 2022-2024 are still required to earn 24 credits for graduation.  Students in the graduating class of 2025 and beyond will need to complete 26 of the 28 credits available.

Each day, students will enter the building through the main front door. Free breakfast and lunch will be available for all students.  Junior and senior students will have the opportunity to go off campus for lunch this year.  Freshmen and sophomores will remain on campus during lunch; however, students will be able to eat in the cafeteria, high school gym, and outside as the weather permits. At the end of the school day, students who ride the bus will walk to the front of the middle school to get on the bus.

Masking: Currently, all students and staff (regardless of vaccination status) will wear masks while in the building. High school students will have frequent outside breaks, PE outside, and the option to eat lunch outside (weather permitting). As always, if a student is not feeling well, they need to stay home. At this time, there will be no daily attestation requirement.

Lockers: Students will have the opportunity to use hallway lockers this year.  For students that have physical education class, they will be using the gym lockers for their PE clothes and gym shoes.

Fall Sports: High school football practice began Wednesday, August 18 and all cross-country, cheer, soccer, and volleyball practices began Monday, August 23.  If you are still interested in playing a fall sport, it is not too late to sign up.  Please sign-up on final forms or contact our Athletic Director, Hailey Bator, batorh@cersd.org for more information. See the link for the updated Fall Game schedule

High School Office: School offices will be open to the public starting on August 30th. At any time, you can contact Carle in the High School Office with questions or for support at 509-649-4901. If you would like to contact me directly, you may do so by leaving a message with Carle or via email simpsonb@cersd.org.

Class Schedules: Students and parents will be able to view student class schedules beginning September 2nd on Skyward. If you cannot access Skyward, schedules will be handed out on the first day of school as students enter the building.

Picture Day - Individual pictures are set for Friday, September 10 beginning at 8:15 am.  Packets will be sent out on the first day of school.

I am excited to begin my 10th year as principal of CERHS. Together, we will be “Standing Tall” as Warriors as we begin the 2021-22 school year. See everyone on Wednesday, September 8 for our first day of school.

Sincerely,
