Facilities Use Committee Update

Dear Cle Elum-Roslyn School Community,

The Cle Elum-Roslyn School District is committed to providing safe, modern, and effective learning spaces for all students. To help guide this work, we’ve launched a long-range facilities planning process with input from staff, families, and community members.

Why This Matters

Our school buildings are facing capacity challenges. As part of our Facilities Committee’s work, we are closely examining future enrollment projections provided by a demographer, which anticipates an increase of approximately 30 students per year. Given the current capacity of our buildings, this growth will create an elementary school space challenge in the near future. To accommodate this, we are looking at options for building a new facility, remodeling facilities to include 7th & 8th, or other solutions for aging facilities and capacity issues. A key focus of the committee’s research is determining how we can best meet the needs of our middle school students moving forward—an important challenge we are committed to addressing thoughtfully and proactively.

The Planning Process

In Fall 2024, we formed a Facilities Use Committee made up of staff, parents, board members, and community leaders. This team has met regularly to:

  • Review enrollment trends and building capacity

  • Tour our school facilities

  • Evaluate space needs for modern instruction and student support

  • Discuss options to improve learning environments

We’ve partnered with ALSC Architects and Teeter and Crocker to support a formal Study & Survey process—required for qualifying for future state construction assistance funds (SCAP).

What’s Next

By Spring 2025, the committee will present recommendations to the School Board, which may include:

  • Updating or reconfiguring current buildings

  • Addressing capacity issues

  • Exploring options for a new or remodeled 7–12 building with hands-on learning spaces, arts areas, and more

We’re also planning listening sessions and surveys to gather staff, student, and community input. No final decisions have been made, and we welcome your ideas as we move forward together.
