New Multi-Use Athletic Facilities Takes Shape!

Excitement is building across the Cle Elum-Roslyn School District as construction nears completion on two newly remodeled, multi-use athletic facilities that will serve all student-athletes now and for generations to come.

While the project began as a vision to improve football facilities, district leaders emphasize that these spaces are designed for every athletic program. They will be used as changing and locker rooms, team meeting areas, and film review spaces—supporting every sport from cross country to basketball, volleyball to track and field.

athletic building progressSuperintendent John Belcher reflected on the project’s significance for the community and its culture:

When I interviewed for this role, one of the things I heard most often was that in Cle Elum-Roslyn, when kids need something, the community comes together. This project is proof of that spirit. The volunteers, contractors, and businesses who donated their time, materials, and expertise have shown that our youth are this community’s greatest asset. I also want to recognize how selfless our football program and boosters have been in championing a vision that benefits every athlete and every program—not just their own. This is exactly the type of culture we are working to build, and Mike and Taylor Cameron embody that vision in spades.

The District also wants to highlight the extraordinary commitment of its coaches. Head Football Coach Mike Cameron, and Assistant Football Coach Taylor Cameron, have gone above and beyond to support every program, demonstrating dedication that extends far beyond their coaching roles.

If coaches and athletes respect and take care of the facilities, and they’re properly maintained, these spaces will serve our students for many years to come,” said Head Football Coach Mike Cameron. “They’re unlike anything this school has ever provided for its athletes.”

The transformation from an aging, outdated building into two modern, functional facilities has been made possible by overwhelming community support—especially from local contractors, tradespeople, and businesses.

athletic building progessWe’ve been fortunate to receive generous support from local contractors who donated time, materials, and expertise to help our scholars,” Cameron said. “It’s one thing to have the vision, but another to find the people and resources to make it happen. The generosity has been overwhelming.

The design is intentionally versatile, with roomy layouts, HVAC systems, WiFi, fiber optic connections, and large-screen TVs for game review and instruction. Still, Cameron notes, the colorful epoxy floors and custom wood lockers will be the true “eye candy” when visitors first walk in.

Cameron hopes the facilities will inspire a sense of pride among all student-athletes:

My high school coach used to say, ‘If you’re looking good, you’re feeling good, and if you’re feeling good, you’re playing good.’ These spaces will bring pride to our athletes, and I hope that carries into their academics, their performance on the field or court, and their role in our community.

He added, “Athletics help kids grow as individuals and teach habits and life lessons—discipline, respect, responsibility, teamwork, character and humility. If we can provide facilities that enhance those experiences, then we need to roll up our sleeves and make it happen.

As the project moves toward completion, the excitement is clear: this is more than just a construction project—it’s an investment in the student experience, athletic pride, and the deep bond between the Cle Elum-Roslyn School District and the community that supports it.
