Hello Families,

Today, superintendents across Washington state joined our OSPI state superintendent, Chris Reykdal, to share our collective concerns and requests regarding the COVID decision making rules that have continued to have a profound impact on our children’s mental health.

We are asking that our decision making officials; Governor Jay Inslee and Lacey Fehrenbach, COVID-19 response team for WA DOH, shift our public dialogue from treating COVID as a pandemic to addressing COVID as an endemic. Therefore, we are asking these officials to work on defining a path for removing all remaining COVID-19 restrictions in public schools which includes an exit strategy to:

  1. Eliminate contact tracing requirements for schools.
  2. Narrow the scope of COVID testing to symptomatic students.
  3. Permit family choice for masking and eliminate masking as a mandate.

We will keep you updated, as changes are imminent.
