Today, superintendents across Washington state joined our OSPI state superintendent, Chris Reykdal, to share our collective concerns and requests regarding the COVID decision making rules that have continued to have a profound impact on our children’s mental health.
We are asking that our decision making officials; Governor Jay Inslee and Lacey Fehrenbach, COVID-19 response team for WA DOH, shift our public dialogue from treating COVID as a pandemic to addressing COVID as an endemic. Therefore, we are asking these officials to work on defining a path for removing all remaining COVID-19 restrictions in public schools which includes an exit strategy to:
- Eliminate contact tracing requirements for schools.
- Narrow the scope of COVID testing to symptomatic students.
- Permit family choice for masking and eliminate masking as a mandate.
