Dear Cle Elum-Roslyn School District Community,
As we close the 2025–2026 school year, I want to express my sincere gratitude to our students, staff, families, and community for another year of growth, achievement, and partnership.
This year provided many reasons to celebrate. Most notably, CERSD was recognized by the Washington Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) as one of a select group of districts receiving the State Superintendent's Award for Academic Progress. This recognition reflects the incredible work happening in our classrooms every day and serves as a reminder of what our students can accomplish when supported by exceptional educators and engaged families.
Throughout the year, we continued investing in student learning by adopting new Social Studies, Spanish, and American Sign Language curriculum resources—replacing some materials that had served our district for nearly two decades. We are also excited about the continued expansion of secondary programming and pathways designed to better prepare students for success in college, careers, military service, and life beyond graduation.
This year also marked significant progress in our long-range facilities planning. After extensive study and community engagement over two years, the Board continues moving toward the recommendation of remodeling our high school into a 7–12 facility while expanding elementary services into the current middle school portion of the elementary building. As our district continues to grow, we remain committed to ensuring our facilities support the needs of current and future students.
Thanks to voter support of our Capital Projects Levy, several important facility improvements are underway, including the installation of cooling systems at our elementary and middle school campus. We are grateful for the community's continued investment in providing safe, comfortable, and effective learning environments for students and staff.
Student and staff safety remained a major focus this year. While several false alarms tested our systems and patience, we appreciate the support of our families and community as we worked through system kinks. We will continue refining our safety procedures and reviewing systems this summer to ensure we remain prepared and responsive.
Like many districts across Washington, we continue to face financial pressures created by rising costs and a state funding model that has not kept pace with actual operating expenses. This year, we remained focused on rebuilding our reserves and strengthening our financial position while continuing to provide high-quality programs and services for students.
As we celebrate the end of the year, we also extend our heartfelt appreciation to our retiring staff members. Their years of service, dedication, and commitment have left a lasting impact on generations of students and families, and we wish them all the best in their next chapter.
Finally, thank you to our families, community partners, donors, scholarship sponsors, volunteers, and supporters. Your generosity and partnership create opportunities that help our students thrive. Our graduates leave us with bright futures ahead because they are surrounded by a community that believes in them and invests in their success.
To our staff, thank you for the care, professionalism, and heart you bring to this work every day. To our students, congratulations on another successful year of learning and growth.
I wish all of you a safe, restful, and rewarding summer. We look forward to welcoming everyone back in the fall.
With gratitude and be well,
“JB” John Belcher
Superintendent
