Fun was had by all during the Christmas holiday pong game at the high school and the middle school. Students got to bounce a ping pong ball into a cupcake tin. If the ball landed in one of the cups they won a prize, if it didn’t then they could get back in line and try again. Some of the prizes included an extra large slinky, McDonald gift cards, candy canes, boxes of candy and a squishmallow. Thank you to our Community Prevention Specialist, Lonnie Allphin, and our Student Assistance Professional, Cathie Songer, for putting together this fun game for our students!

The Secure and Teach has been lifted for all buildings in the Cle Elum-Roslyn School District per the notification by the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office. We are now allowing students to move throughout their day normally, including between the buildings. Thank you for your patience with this process. Our students did a great job following directions and listening to staff this morning. Counselors are available at each building if students or staff would like support after this stressful situation

All buildings in the Cle Elum-Roslyn School District are currently in a Secure and Teach due to police activity in the community. Students are allowed to transition between classes, teachers are continuing to teach but students are not allowed to leave the buildings or travel between buildings at this time. We are also not admitting visitors into the buildings at this time. We will continue to stay in a Secure and Teach until the Kittitas County Sheriff's Office notifies us to do so. We also request that parents do not call the school to request additional details from staff at this time.

Yesterday students traveled to KVH to learn more about careers in Healthcare. They did a great job asking questions and engaging with professionals from HR, Doctors, Nurses, Engineering and IT. Students also learned more about KVH Apprenticeship programs and were inspired by a demonstration on Stop The Bleed. The Warriors that attended have hopes of one day becoming ER Nurses, Ultra Sound Technicians, Physical Therapists, Nutritionists, Pediatric Nurses, Radiology Technicians, Pharmacists, Accountant AND a Heart Surgeon. Industry experiences like these are an exciting opportunity for our students. If you and your business, would be interested in hosting a student experience, reach out to Sarah Day (days@cersd.org) in the Career Center to learn more!

Dear Cle Elum-Roslyn School District Parents and Students, As we approach parent and student conferences today, we wanted to get you some important information regarding food service. We hope you are enjoying the improved quality of our food and the new options students and staff are enjoying. During COVID we were able to offer free lunches for all because of Federal COVID money. Those resources are no longer being allocated and we are required by the State to collect for breakfast and lunches, and we are not allowed to let students carry negative balances moving forward. Starting November 15th, we will need to stop allowing negative balances. No students will be shamed, and all students will be fed an alternative meal. You should be receiving skyward food account balance emails twice a week if your account is getting low, or overdrawn. We will begin to alert you when your balance is $25 or lower. We are here to help! Now is a great time to emphasize the importance of submitting your Free and Reduced Lunch Form, even if you do not plan to use a free lunch. Your participation in this program has far-reaching benefits for our district students and our community as a whole. As a District, our percentage of free and reduced lunch rates are much lower than districts in our region. That could mean many things like misunderstanding you need to fill out the form annually, assuming you don’t qualify (check here for an overview) or poor communication on the part of the District to you. This form is an easy form to fill out and we will have forms available for our parent and student conferences. Doubt if you’ll qualify? We encourage you to fill out the form. Here are some compelling reasons why it's crucial to complete the Free and Reduced Lunch Form each year: 1. Federal Funding for Education: Higher percentages of Free and Reduced Lunch forms directly impact the amount of federal funding our district receives for education. These funds are crucial for maintaining and improving the quality of education we can provide to your children. 2. Support for Vulnerable Students: The information you provide on these forms helps us identify students who may need additional support or resources. 3. Additional Support: Free and reduced rates that hit a percentage a little higher than we are now as a District, could qualify the entire district to be free lunches, improves our support in Federal grants like Title 1, helps in our e-rate (provides lower rates for internet and telecommunications) and can reduce our transportation costs. 4. Ensuring Positive Nutrition for All: Participating in the Free and Reduced Lunch program ensures that all students have access to balanced and nutritious meals, which is essential for their physical and mental well-being. As numbers rise in food service, we can improve our offerings. 5. Confidentiality: Students and families that qualify are kept highly confidential. Students enter a code like all students, and move through the line, there is no understanding by students, or staff running the registrars who qualify. This is kept highly confidential. Important Deadline: November 15th is when we will offer alternative meals until families have addressed their overdrawn balance. After this date, we will no longer be able to carry negative balances for school meal accounts. Access to the Form: Here is how you access the form, and we are glad to support you in completing the form in any office of the district. If you have filled out a form, and you have not heard back from the district, please email us here @ stoneh@cersd.org. How can I check my account balance, click the link in food services on "How to" How can I add money to my students account? You can do this through our Online Store Access or you can cut a check in the mail office to add money to the account. Thank you for your continued support in making Cle Elum-Roslyn School District an exceptional place for learning and growth. If you have any questions, or concerns about this communication, please email me directly glad to address it belcherj@cersd.org.
